INVITATIONS
Among the many problems which the visually impaired encounter in their
daily life,those on their street walking and their taking in information
are generally believed to be the most significant.
The ''LIFESTYLE AND INFORMATION CENTER FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED,GIFU",
which is a none-governmental welfare center operated by the social welfare
corporation GIFU ASSOCIA, is very active in many areas for the visually
impaired at home.
The CENTER plays an important part as a foothold for the visually impaired
by first providing every kind of consultation and rehabilitation in response
to needs of the local visually impaired, and also by progressing works
aiming at the "society being together with the visually impaired"
by means of public enlightenment. And moreover, the CENTER provides the
whole country with every kind of living information and library in Braille
and recorded tapes produced by a lot. of volunteers.
HISTORY
1894 Establishment of the“Gifu Seikokai Kunmoin(House for training the
visually impaired,the Episcopal Church of Gifu)”
1941 Establishment of a nonprofit corporation,Gifu Kunmoin Kyokai(the Gifu
Visually Impaired People Training Corporation)
1951 Opening the“Aimo-Kan(The House of Love for The Visually Impaired)”
1969 Opening the Library in Braille
1960 Certified as a social welfare corporation.
1997 Completion of the new facility
The organization and its facility has changed their names as“The Social
Welfare Corporation,GIFU ASSOCIA”and“The Lifestyle and Information Center
for the Visually Impaired,Gifu,”respectively.
